There are 24 hours per day and most of us have dedicated 8 hours of our time to our work and sometimes even more than that! But, if we are lucky enough, we were able to get that extra one hour to do anything we like with no interruption. Sometimes this extra hour came a bit too sudden for you and you aren’t sure what you can do with it. Before you know it, that precious hour has passed and you’re back to routine life again. Well, fret not, we’ve got 10 things you can do with an extra hour and trust us, they’re definitely worth the time!
1. Learn a foreign language
Be it Korean, Spanish, French, Japanese, just to name a few…learning a new foreign language an hour per day is one of the best things to do with an extra hour. They may come in handy when travelling to other countries and you could even be a temporary translator for the other foreigners too!
2. Sleep/Siesta
Rest is what everyone wanted after a day of hard work. If there’s an extra hour for you before going out for work again, remember to take a rest from work, even if it means an hour or less. It helps to refuel your energy for the rest of the day and people wouldn’t be seeing you yawning non-stop too
3. Exercise
Too busy for work is always the lame excuse given by most people when it comes to exercise. But, with the proper time management, there will always be time for exercise and once it becomes a habit, it will not stop. Go for a yoga lesson, or jog in the park nearby could be the perfect exercise within an hour. You can do different set of exercise and there might still be some time left for you to rest from the intensive exercise.
4. Read a book
Sometimes we are too occupied by our work that we tend to forget that there are still a stack of books resting on the bookshelf. Enhance your knowledge with these books and perhaps you can even get some brilliant ideas from the books you’ve just read!
5. Write journal
Jot down all the important events and things that has happened to you over the week. Spot the mistakes you’ve made and change a little part of yourself with a better attitude. When you reread the journal, you’ll notice how much you’ve changed day by day.
6. Clean Up Your Room
There’s no way escaping from cleaning up your room when the dusts can pile up in just a day. Hence, clean up the room you hadn’t been able to clean from last week and get organized! You’ll feel better after the rubbish and the dust has cleared out from the room.
7. Spend time with friends and family
Has it been a really long time since you’ve last met your family and your friends? Well, make use of this extra hour and spend time with your beloved family and friends! Talk to them about anything, basically everything and let them know what you’re up to right now! We know an hour is just 60 minutes but it’s better than wasting your time doing something unnecessary though.
8. Volunteer
Get involved in a charity event and be a volunteer. It’s a great way to support an organization and further a cause. It also allows you to meet new people and help to make a difference for the unfortunate kids or families. You can also volunteer in a soup kitchen (i.e. Kechara Soup Kitchen) that offers free food for the poor and the homeless.
9. Catch up with latest news updates
Know a little bit more about your world and read up about what’s happening around the world. Be it local or international, get as much as information as possible so that you can get a glimpse of the things that are happening around the world. It’s always a good conversation starter for your social life too as there will always be endless topics for you.
10. Explore the city
Go get adventurous and explore the city. Start by walking around the city’s hippest and most happening place, then to the less crowded place, and you might find yourself some hidden gems in the city. Then, the next time you wouldn’t have to spend another day at the usual coffee shop but have some great time in the newly discovered places. But, be careful when you’re going on your little adventure and don’t let your guard down even when the people around you are being nice to you.
