German luxury house MCM is carrying forward with its 40th anniversary celebrations with a collection of bold head turners inspired by the emblematic artistry of its birthplace for Autumn/Winter 2016. Exploring the opulent creative heritage of Munich, the collection showcases a juxtaposition between lavish glamour and clean, minimal solid colourways.
A colour palette of reds, gold, yellow ochre and deep blues are embellished with prominent references to Germany’s dynamic creative expression and cultural heritage through baroque-inspired patterns and motifs, maintaining a contemporary tone and aesthetic throughout the collection.
The Stark Leather Insignia is an expression of European antiquity with embroidered patches, studs and fox fur, whereas the Baroque Print Series showcase intricately hand-sewn and raised baroque prints that are an interpretation of classic German artisan tradition.
Two louder arrays would be Milla Gepard featuring luxurious calf hair in audacious leopard patterns adorned with a detachable fox fur charm, and Mitte Brocade with studs, velvet, leather and embroidery fused into elegant yet modern shapes. The Berlin, Patricia, and Milla Primary Series are ultimately kept classic and functional.
The Autumn/Winter 2016 collection for MCM marks the beginning of a new era for the brand as its aesthetic styles are ever evolving, while recognising its own heritage. Baroque modernity defines the collection and celebrates four decades of imagination and innovation.
