If you spend a lot of your time pruning your roses and pottering your veggie patch, you’ll be glad to know that women who spend time gardening everyday can lose up to a dress size. A study was conducted and showed that women who gardened were 46% less likely to have a weight problem. If that’s not enough to convince you that gardening is the cheapest and most relaxing form of exercise, here’s four reasons why it can help you lose weight

It Works Every Major Muscle Groups
As you’re on your toes, digging up holes and planting new seeds for some new vegetables or fruits works all your major muscle groups – legs, arms, buttocks, shoulders, neck, back and abdomen. These tasks are the one to build muscle strength and burn calories. That aside, your joints will even strengthen up as you’re constantly on your feet as gardening is a more low impact form of workout unless aerobics or running.

It Relieves Stress
Snipping off all those weeds from the root may look tedious, but believe it or not, some have found gardening to be a truly relaxing form of activity. Nature is always the best form of therapy and if you ever feel like escaping the general rush of life, get a garden fork and a spade shovel and head out to your garden. It’s definitely way cheaper than meditation classes or therapy, for sure!

It Gives You A Good Stretch
There’s no need to pay weekly lessons for stretching classes now that you’ve got a garden to attend to. A great deal of stretching is involved in gardening, like reaching for weeds or even bending down to reach for a plant. All this movements while you attend to your greens promotes healthier bones and joints, giving you more a more toned and fitter figure.

It Encourages Good Eating Habits
If you take your gardening seriously and don’t limit yourself to beautiful flowers and magical plants, planting some fruits and vegetables in your garden will help promote healthy eating habits. Why wouldn’t you eat the veggies that grow in your backyard, right? Start planting vegetables and you’re probably saving yourself from poisoning. Mass-produced fruits and vegetables are high in insecticidess, so growing it on your own with coffee beans for fertilizer, you’ve pretty much got yourself your own organic produce!
