Being healthy is a lifestyle that involves not only regular fitness activities, cutting down (and eventually quitting) bad habits such as excessive drinking and smoking), but also having the right eating habits. Celebrities such as Miranda Kerr and Demi Moore follow the ‘Blood Type Diet’, and here’s a brief rundown about it:

Each individual has their own biochemical make up which makes them unique. Dr Peter D’Adamo states in his book Eat Right 4 Your Type that ABO blood type is the most important factor in having a healthy diet. The book recommends different nutrition and exercise tips for different blood groups.

Blood type A

Fragile digestive systems- Low tolerance for protein from animals, usually lactose intolerant, prone to anaemia. Enjoy calming exercises.

Foods that will help you gain weight: Meat, dairy, kidney and lima beans, wheat, sugar, white flour.

Foods that will help you lose weight: Vegetable oils, soy products, vegetables, pineapple.

Blood type B

Tolerant digestive system, cannot digest products containing gluten very well.

Foods that will help you gain weight: Chicken, corn, wheat, lentils, peanuts, sesame seeds.

Foods that will help you lose weight: Green vegetables, red meat, seafood, soy products, oatmeal, rice.

Blood type O

Naturally slow metabolisms, enjoy vigorous exercises, need animal protein for good health, cannot digest products containing gluten very well.

Foods that will help you gain weight: Gluten, corn, lentils, cabbage, kidney and navy beans, sugar, white flour, cauliflower

Foods that will help you lose weight: Seafood, red meat, sea kelp

Blood type AB:

Less than 5% of the world have the blood type AB, you combine the best and worst traits of blood types A and B. You have low stomach acid, so the meat you eat tends to get stored as fat most of the time.

Foods that will help you gain weight: Red meat, kidney and lima beans, seeds, corn, wheat.

Foods that will help you lose weight: Tofu, seafood, dairy, sea kelp, pineapple.
