The Koreans are experts when it comes to beauty and having youthful skin. From their tedious 10-step skincare regimen to facial massages giving your face a ‘lift’, the results are simply outstanding. Similar to face massage, facial yoga also promises profound benefits as regards the look and feel of your face.

Of course, your lifestyle plays a vital role in shaping the condition of your skin and overall health. Your input (food) matters as much as, or even more than, physical exercises or high-end chemically-laden products. So, be mindful that these external efforts are merely supplemental to what you eat on a daily basis and the physical exercises you perform.

There are about two dozen individual muscles on either side of your face, but there is no gym equipment to help strengthen or tone them. It comes as no surprise that stress and tension are part of our daily lives, and the best way to alleviate them is by practicing facial yoga diligently. So what happens if your muscles are loaded with stress and you do nothing about it? Well, your skin tends to age faster, your youthful charm is tainted, and you end up looking extremely dull.

Ever notice someone who carries a naturally happy face? That’s because they either have a habit of laughing, or practice some kind of facial exercise to keep them looking fit and healthy.

Stronger facial muscles can do wonders for sagging, aging fat pads. Once you’re in the habit of doing facial yoga, you’ll drastically improve blood circulation, which results in the skin being more elastic and softer to the touch.

Cheek lifter: Open your mouth and form an O. Position your upper lip over your teeth, smile to lift the cheek muscles, put your fingers lightly on the top part of your cheeks, release the cheek muscles to lower them, and lift back up. Repeat by lowering and lifting the cheeks.

Happy cheeks sculpting: Smile without showing teeth, purse lips together, smile by forcing the cheek muscles up, place your fingers on the corners of the mouth and slide them up to the top of the cheeks, hold for 20 seconds.

Lion’s pose: First, sit in a comfortable position. Lean your arms forward, with your hands stretched on the floor. Take a deep breath in and, on an exhalation, open your mouth and make a loud “haaa” sound, like a lion’s roar. Exhale completely, pointing your tongue toward your chin. At first, you might feel a little self-conscious doing this pose because of how your face might look, but you’ll be fine after a couple of tries. You can try to do this in a private space to make yourself feel more comfortable.

Be sure to try these simple exercises for healthier, youthful skin!
