TikTok has been THE social media platform where users anticipate upcoming trends, from fashion to beauty. With makeup specifically, when delving into TikTok, you could possibly find one or two new trends while scrolling through a sea of videos. One new trend that has caught the eye (get it?) of the beauty community is the “sad eyes” trend.

TikTok has recently been flooded with doe eyes and siren eyes, with makeup enthusiasts sporting the look. Now, with this budding trend, you can try to sport a new eye look to make you appear… well, sadder. The trend firstly originated from a beauty creator named Nika, who shared that her favourite makeup look is the “sad eyes” look. However, the way she does her “sad eyes” look is more dramatic.

While this particular look definitely suits her, it’s not really the best look for those who wish to look somewhat more natural, especially for a day-to-day look. With “sad eyes” currently blowing up on makeuptok, there are now other renditions created by others exploring this trend. A makeup artist by the name of Evelyn created “sad eyes” look that is much prettier and softer, but still looks like they just cried.

Here’s a full tutorial on how to achieve Evelyn’s version of the “sad eyes” trend:

If Evelyn’s “sad eyes” makeup look is a bit too dramatic for you, then give Scortezz Beauty’s version a try. It’s much more subdued and uses only a few products to achieve the look – and in a matter of minutes, you’ll have the “sad eyes” look of your dreams.

Step-by-step guide to achieving Scortezz Beauty’s ‘sad eyes’ makeup look:

  1. Apply red eyeliner or eyeshadow on your waterline, extending the line on both inner and outer corners of your eyes. The reddish hue on your waterline will make it look as if you have bloodshot eyes, like you’ve just had an intense crying session. Pro tip: if you have a darker skin tone, use a burgundy shade.
  2. Afterwards, apply brown eyeliner on the outer corner of your eyes and smudge it just a bit, blending both the brown and red together. This will give the illusion that you have smudged mascara from your tears.
  3. With a cooler reddish brown eyeshadow, drag the colour around your eyes in a circular shape to make your eyes look sunken.
  4. Apply a darker brown on the outer corners of your eyes, top and bottom to deepen the sunken eyes look.
  5. To mimic the look of tears, add a ton of glitter on your eyelids and under the eyes.
