At least once a week, my Personal Trainer would schedule in a session for Functional Training but what exactly is Functional Training?
According to one of my PT (personal trainer), TV Chung, “Functional training is exercise that is related to your daily life activities such as jumping, climbing, pushing, running, etc..”
Though by the end of my Functional Training session I’m usually panting and sweating like crazy, I like the fact that it is a form of cardio for me and often, I would use every single part of my body when I am exercising instead of just targeting a particular area which I believe is important.
Here are two videos of the routine for my functional training exercise during my Personal Training session last Saturday.
Repeat 3 sets
10 x barbell squat (8 lbs each)
30 second balancing plank
1 minute high knee on mini trampoline
10 x medicine ball burpee
Repeat 3 sets
10 x Bar lateral raise x 10
10 x suspended jump squat
50 x mountain climber
For someone who has a “short” attention span and gets bored easily, I like the fact that there are a lot of functional training equipments that I can use for my workout such as Kettle Bells, VIPR, Ropes, Medicine Ball, Free weights and many many more…Variety is the spice of life they say 🙂
