Sitting in the office for hours can suck the life out of you and your boring desk space or cubicle can make you loathe going to work everyday. Since you’re spending so much time in the office, why not make it your own personal sanctuary? Personalize your workspace to be a reflection of things you love and your personality. You’ll then look forward to sitting at your cheery, bright desk and it’ll do amazing things for your work productivity! Here are five ways to spruce up your drab workspace:
1. Have a theme – It doesn’t matter whether you like the classic black and white ambience, a girly and sweet pastel-coloured office space or a Harry Potter-themed desk. Decide on your favourite and create your entire workspace around it. You could get knick-knacks as decorations, a stuffed pillow and throw blanket to put on your chair and even a telephone according to your theme.
2. Non-work related artifacts – Search around your house for things that make you happy and that you would like to display at your desk. It could be some photos, a flight ticket stub from a memorable trip, a handmade card from your boyfriend or a memento from your awesome childhood. Place them strategically on your desk where you can easily notice these things.
3. Inspirational art – Search on Tumblr or Pinterest for some inspirational and motivational quotes, then print them out. You could either frame them or stick them directly onto your wall to keep you going at work and to remind you of the reasons why you should continue working hard for your own sake. If you want something really personalized, try making your own DIY canvas art.
4. Cute stationeries – If you think that this is insignificant, you’re indeed wrong. Having some colourful and uplifting stationeries could make all the difference in your mood and inspire you at any time of the day. It could be whatever that floats your boat – chevron-printed pens, erasers in different animal shapes, ironically quoted notebooks or blinged up notice boards. Better yet, buy stationeries that complement with your theme!
5. Buy or make organizers – De-clutter your workspace and organize everything accordingly. This would make you feel more in control and you’ll have a proper place for everything. Splurge on fancy tin boxes, magazine holders, pen holders and little chests of drawers to be arranged neatly on your desk. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, try making your own with containers lying around your house and some decorative wrapping paper or fabric.
