From haute couture runway show to high street fashion, more wearable looks are available this season and ponytail hairstyle is being reinvented into so many ways. Ponytail hairstyles are now the new braids as everyone was seen wearing different kind of ponytails. Whether you’re going a casual low-maintenance look or a high fashion look, ponytail is always the classic hairstyle to go with its endless variations. Inspired mostly by the runway look, here are a few ways to turn your boring regular ponytail into a new creative fashion statement!
1. Three-part ponytail
As seen on Hervè Lèger by Max Azria’s spring 2012 show,three-part ponytail can be created by making three tight ponytails. The level goes from the top of ears to bottom of ears to the nape of your neck. Then, lay the top pony over the middle pony and fasten them together with a hair bungee around the elastic of the second pony. Finally, secure the two ponies to the third pony in the same way.
2. Fishtail ponytail
Once you already know how to do fishtail braids, then this ponytail is easier for you. First, make a ponytail and separate the hair into 2 sections. Grab a small section of your hair from the underside of the right section and pull it across the centre towards the middle. Grab another section to the left section and pull tight. Repeat the steps with the opposite side of your hair and keep alternative sides. Pull tight as you do the braid and tie it all up with an elastic band. For a more boho look, stick your fingers in to loosen it.
3. Side french-braid ponytail
The new ponytail hairstyle is mixed with French-braid that create a new look. For French-braid ponytail, grab a section of your hair from your ear forward on one side and braid up the side by your ear. As usual, keep weaving your hair into a French braid along the hairline. Combine the braids with the remaining hair and wrap it around the the ponytail with a pin. If you want to do both side, repeat the steps and wrap it around the ponytail to cover the elastic.
4. Criss-cross ponytail
Gather the top section of your hair into a mini pony tail and securing it at the crown. Starting from the front hairline, criss-cross sections of hairs across the mini ponytail and ensure they are one-and-a-half inches wide. Each section should seamlessly joins up with the rest of your hair and twist before pining to the tail end. Repeat the steps with another side until it reaches the nape of your neck. Loop the final section of hair around the entire ponytail and secure in place with a bobby pin. (Source)
5. Twisted low ponytail
As seen in Jenny Packham’s spring/summer collections, the side twisted ponytail is created by parting the hair to the left and twisted the hair from the right side of the head. The twisted section of hair then gather into a low ponytail as the final result. You can create the inverted hairstyle with a regular low ponytail as well by making a hole underneath the ponytail base and flip your ponytail upward and push it through the gap. Pull it out and tighten the ponytail for a twisted effect.
6. Triple knot ponytail
The new ponytail with triple knot gives off a slight futuristic feel to the look. To create the hairstyle, gather your hair into a low ponytail and secure it with an elastic band. Grab a small section of hair and wrap it around the ponytail with pin to hide the elastic band. Then, divide the ponytail into two sections and secure them with elastic band about two inches away from the base of the ponytail. Grab a small section of hair again and wrap them to hide the elastic band.
7. French twist
Similar to side twisted ponytail, this hairstyle involves twisting the section of your hair into a ponytail as well. The hairstyle best works on curly hair for its texture. To create the hairstyle , first gather your hair into a low ponytail. Divide the top section of your hair into 3 sections and twist the middle section. Pin the twisted section to the low ponytail. Repeat the same steps with the side sections. (Source)
