Throughout this festive season, some of your friends and family will be having you over to celebrate Christmas with them. While the bad side of the holiday season is that you’ll probably pack on a few pounds, the delicious meals that you’ll get to taste is really worth it. Here are our six favourite Christmas dishes – do share with us which one you love the most!
1. Roast Turkey
Although it was initially a customary dish served during Thanksgiving in the United States, it also became part of a traditional Christmas menu. A 5kg turkey is enough to feed an entire family, and there’ll still be enough leftover for sandwiches the day after, or even soups. Roast turkeys are typically served stuffed or with dressing (on the side), with cranberry sauce and gravy.
2. Leg of Lamb
Elegant, juicy and hearty, this holiday entree makes every holiday meal a mouthwatering affair. A juicy slice of boneless lamb is spiraled and cooked to perfection, and served with mint pesto that will leave you begging for more.
3. Christmas Ham
Also known as a Yule Ham, the ham comes from either cured or smoked meat, and is either cooked in the oven or boiled. Honey-cured ham can also replace a Christmas ham, but if you’re making it at home, try use marmalade for a pinch of flavor instead.
4. Pork/Beef Ribs
Although it’s not a customary dish to serve during Christmas, ribs are still hearty mains that will get everyone excited about dinner. The best kinds are the ones with delicious marinade, and meat that slides off the bone with ease.
5. Pot Roast
A Christmas dinner isn’t complete without a festive beef pot roast. Though economical, one pot roast can feed up 10 people. This rich, comforting meal is also easy to cool. Just let it cook in low heat with some seasoning for 3 to 4 hours.
6. Roast Chicken
A more economical alternative to a turkey,a roast chicken is an ultimate classic when it comes to a traditional Christmas dinner, no matter where you are. This succulent and tender bird is seasoned and then roasted until its coating forms a gorgeous shiny glaze. Complete with a serving of creamy mashed potatoes, vegetables and of course, gravy!
