Gay couples in Britain have reason to celebrate now that Queen Elizabeth gave her royal nod of approval to allow same-sex marriages next summer.
House of Commons Speaker John Bercow said royal ascent had been given – one day after the bill to legalize same-sex marriage in England and Wales cleared Parliament.
The Queen’s approval was a formality and necessary for the bill to become a law. The new law also allows couples who had previously entered into civil partnerships to convert their relationships to marriage.
The new law applies to both England and Wales. We’re looking forward to hearing news about absolutely fabulous weddings in the UK now. We’re truly excited to see that the Queen, is wiling to go against the normal custom to welcome the 21st century with open arms!
