Every woman needs a gorgeous black dress to take her everywhere she needs to go. But what is the most most amount of money you would spend on a one-of-a-kind black frock? Say..US$17 mil?
The world’s most expensive dress, an abaya, will go on display in Dubai this month. The abaya was designed by British-born designer, Debbie Wingham, the garment is made up 50 two-carat white diamonds, 50 two-carat black diamonds, and 1899 pointer diamonds, which are set in platinum, The centre of the dress is made up of red diamonds.
Red diamonds are especially unique since one in every 100 million diamonds is a naturally red, and they are found every 50 years on average. The red diamond on the dress costs approximately US$7.1 mil. Clearly the price tag of the red diamond says it all.
On top of the diamonds, the black and white diamonds are also stitched into place with a 14-carat white gold thread.
Wingham has dressed the likes of Hollywood starlets, Dita Von Teese, Hilary Swank and Kate Winslet and has also guest judged on Britain’s Next Top Model. Some of her creations were also featured on Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty.
In 2012, Wingham debuted what could’ve been the world’s most expensive black dress, that’s officially valued at US$952,964. The US$17 mil dress is now on display at the Raffles Hotel in Dubai.
