Ah, college! It’s another milestone to being a grown-up. The midway between youth and adulthood, and will probably be one of the best years of your life. So, before you embark you journey on being a full-time college student, here are ten tips to help you survive, have fun, make the best out of those years, and not to mention, graduate!
1. Live on campus. Whether it’s living in a dormitory, or sharing a room with someone you already know, living on campus gives you the added advantage of getting to know more people. It helps you build better social skills and most colleges will already provide the require amenities every student needs. Just keep in mind that you should keep your valuables safe.
2. Learn to cook basic meals. Whether it’s a simple plate of spaghetti or an omelette, every girl should know how to prepare an easy yet simple meal so you don’t stay hungry when all the restaurants are closed. With that said, you should also learn how to use a stove.
3. Get a part-time job. Getting a part-time job while you study, is a great way to pick up numerous skills, make the extra cash for your shopping and even earn a little experience during your college years.
4. Learn to bake. Why? Because when you need to make a little extra cash, baked goods are the way to go!
5. Study your schedule before enrolling. The last thing you want in uni is to have back-to-back classes which will only wear you out and affect your punctuality. As much as we all hate it, morning classes are really the way to go. You’re more likely to stay up better than an afternoon class after brunch and an 10-hour sleep session. Also, take up the difficult subjects first. Your attention span might drop later towards the year.
6. Study during the day. Study during the day time as much as you can since your energy levels will probably much higher. If you’re tired, take a 30 minute power nap and continue your work. What takes you to do an hour during the day might take more up to two hours at night. And besides, save your nights for mingling.
7. Relax about relationships. If you think your college years is about finding a new boyfriend, just relax. Don’t feel the pressure that you need a boyfriend because not everyone marries their college sweetheart. But do go on dates and mingle with men. Once you learn how to be a woman, you’ll have no problem looking for a nice guy in the future.
8. Make use of your Student ID. In case you forgot, your student ID carries a lot more benefits than you think it does. A lot of clothing stores, food outlets and even bookstores generally offer discounts to students. So, always ask or keep a look out for student discounts.
9. Have a list of contacts. Emergency contacts are truly important especially when you’re living alone. Whether it’s a sheet of paper in your wallet, or an entire page on your cellphone, have contacts for relatives nearby, friends and even takeout. You never know when you’re going to need help.
10. Make use of study resources. When you need help with school, the library is the best place to go to get your work done. Other study resources also include your classmates. Everyone’s got different ways of picking out information, and it’s even better to share that knowledge.
