With a kiss lasting nearly two-and-a-half days, this Thai couple were determined to make a new world record for the world’s longest smooch on Valentine’s Day last Friday (15th February)
The breaking record went to hospital security guard Ekkachi Tiranarat, 44, and his 33-year-old wife, Laksana who both locked lips for a total of 58 hours, 35 minutes and 58 seconds – which crushes last years Guiness World Record by more than eight whole hours!
Though it may not be one of them most romantic type of kiss – it was still something. The competitions rules requires contestants to remain on their feet throughout the entire kiss and they are only allowed to slurp food and liquids through a straw. As for the bathroom, they are allowed to go but they must continue pressing their lips together at all times.
“They were very exhausted because they did not sleep for two-and-a-half days, they had to stand all the time so they were very weak,” Sompron Naksuetrong, vice president of event organiser Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! (source)
This kissing contest ended right before Valentine’s Day at midnight. The male couple who won last years contest was unable to maintain their smooch and ended up collapsing just two minutes before Ekkachai and Laksana. The couple won themselves, 100,000 baht (RM10,400) and two diamond rings with 200,00 baht.
Though this has been said to be one of the last kissing competitions to be held in the years to come, as they want to wait to challenge different countries.
