Just when you thought sex was a good form of excersie – think again!
According to a study made and issued in the New England Journal of Medicine, it has been said that the claims to sex burning hundreds of calories is false.
It was always said here and there that sex burns hundreds of calories and is probably on of the better ‘workouts’ out their. But the authors of this study have said that the only study that ever measured sex, found that the average six-minute sex session only burns 21 calories! Yep, you have been fooled!
In the study, it states;
“This level of expenditure is similar to that achieved by walking at a moderate pace (approximately 2.5 miles [4 km] per hour). Given that the average bout of sexual activity lasts about 6 minutes,19 a man in his early-to mid- 30s might expend approximately 21 kcal during sexual intercourse. Of course, he would have spent roughly one third that amount of energy just watching television, so the incremental benefit of one bout of sexual activity with respect to energy expended is plausibly on the order of 14 kcal.” (source)
Looks like you can’t depend on sex for calorie burning – in fact, you might have to spend a good 30 minutes on the treadmill and then add a little sex after, and you will end up burning the 300 calories that you need to.
