John Mayer may say that your body is a wonderland but beware, this man knows his way around the ladies. All the women want him and all he does is cause several heart aches. Though his songs speak of the pain of heartbreaks, in his history, it looks like he is the heartbreaker. Either way, he’s had his fair share from ‘experiences’ despite being the ‘dumpee’ or the one who got dumped and we’re picking out the little things he does to get over a break-up.
He’s dated big names like Jennifer Anniston, Jessica Simpson, Minka Kelly, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Taylor Swift (supposedly) and now, Katy Perry (on and off)!
Here are few ways that the player himself deals with his break ups and heartbreaks!
1. Kiss and tell
This was probably not one of John Mayer’s most prized moments – but after his break up to Jessica Simpson, he took the ‘douchebag’ road and in an interview with Playboy magazine, he revealed a few things he should’ve just kept to himself.
In the interview he spoke of his relationship with Jessica and he said, “Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say,” he continues. “It was like napalm, sexual napalm. Did you ever say, ‘I want to quit my life and just f*****’ snort you? If you charged me $10,000 to f*** you, I would start selling all my s*** just to keep f****** you.” (source)
So, that was the mistake on his part.
2. Play with your hair
Short, long, scrunched up, rugged, beared, clean cut – John Mayer is someone who changes his looks according to his relationship status: Post-break up it’s all rugged, and when he’s seeing someone, he keeps it clean cut and neat. Either way, the evolution of his hair is an image of what his heart feels. We all can learn from that – after every heartbreak, change your look! (Or just cut your hair in this case)
3. Run and hide – and move away!
After every break-up, John seems to disappear for months on end – and comes back with a new album and a new attitude. The most recent one would be his ‘country cowboy’ visage. We’re still finding it hard to grasp that look and feel. Though, he’s changed his look once again, we can still feel that cowboy vibe. After all, he just bought a house in Texas to compensate for his new persona.
So, tip number three – move away, buy a new house in a new area!
4. Tweet tweet
The ‘Gravity’ singer used to tweet religiously, and some say it was one of the supposed reasons he and Jennifer Aniston broke up. When Rolling Stone magazine brought that subject up, John said, “There was a rumor that I had been dumped because I was tweeting too much. That wasn’t it, but that was a big difference. The brunt of her success came before TMZ and Twitter. I think she’s still hoping it goes back to 1998. She saw my involvement in technology as courting distraction. And I always said, “These are the new rules. (…)”
In 2010, he quit Twitter completely due to the fire of problems that kept rolling after each tweet he made and decided to use other social networks, for example, Tumblr.
5. Let them write a song about you – or you write a song about them
Musicians write about their real-life experiences, and in the case of Hollywood celebs, the rest of us are bound to know who you’re writing about – especially after a big break up.
Rumors had it that John Mayer’s song ‘Heartbreak Warfare’ was about Jennifer Aniston and the heartbreak that she caused him – but in an interview with Playboy, Mayer states: “I feel bad because people think ‘Heartbreak Warfare’ is about her. I wanna go on record saying it’s not. That woman would never use heartbreak warfare. That woman was the most communicative, sweetest, kindest person.” – so we guess the song wasn’t written about her after all.
On the other hand, his song ‘Your Body Is A Wonderland’ was about Jennifer Love Hewitt – and that was confirmed by both of them!
Then there’s the case of John Mayer being the victim of a heartbreak song. Remember “Dear John” by Taylor Swift? Well, apparently it was really about him. John’s reaction? In an interview with Rolling Stones magainze he says: “I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower?” He continued to say that as a songwriter, he feels like what she did was ‘cheap songwriting’. (source)
