Hats, hats & more hats! One of common pictures of those we see in hats are mostly royalties from Britain. Don’t we all wish we had a chance to wear one and look like Kate Middleton?
It not really part of our culture as you do not see Malaysians attending grand events with a hat on but it certainly does add that final touches to being fashionable.

Always wanted to wear a hat when you were given the chance but didn’t know how to choose the correct type? Here are some basic rules when it comes to choosing a hat to go with your outfit.
Know your theme well
Identify the theme of your function and see what are its requirements. For instance the invitation may require you to wear a hat but you know it is going to be a garden party. Opt for something simple yet fashionable like the bucket hat. If you are going for a festival, then opt for a hat which is big, funky and extremely colourful.

Get the colour right
Just like matching your accessories, the colour of your hat doesn’t need to be entirely the same as your outfit. Most people would go for same colours, but if you feel a contrasting colour would be better, then go for it. A black outfit would match any colour. For instance if your dress is white and it has a tinge of pink on it, you can always opt for a pink hat as it will compliment your outfit well. A little bit of similarity would do the trick.

What is the shape of your face?
Once again, the structure of your face is important. Blessed are you if you have a heart shaped face as you can choose anything. If you have a round face, then go for something which is simple like a hat with a simple ribbon. Rectangular face? Then choose something with feathers or which has bigger bows as it will bring out your elegance. If you have a square shaped face, choose an asymmetrical hat which will balance out your look.

Placing it right
To tilt or not to? The only way you can get your answer is through experiments. But personally I would tilt the hat if the design of the hat is over the top and if the dress is simple. Only tilt your hat if you know you are going to feel comfortable in it.
