Yawning Regulates Body Temperature

It is 2pm and you’re back in the office right after lunch. You want to get some work done but nothing seems to be working as you are feeling sleepy.

First you start to yawn, then your eyes start to tear up and finally you realize that you have just spent 3 hours in front of Facebook doing nothing because you are feeling extremely sleepy.

But has it every occurred to you that this happens only when you go out under the sun to grab some lunch but if you were to stay all day long in the office, the effects are lesser?

Well there is a reason why people yawn and feel tired after lunch and there are many different types of yawns which we let out everyday. Among the common types of yawn is the ‘I-Am Extremely bored’ yawn, the ‘I need to sleep now yawn’ and there is also the ‘no purpose’ yawn when one yawns for no particular reason.

According to The Telegraph, one of the reasons why people yawn is to regulate their body temperature.

If you do realize, that when you are out under the sun, you would not yawn much especially if you have had a good days rest the night before. But the moment you enter your office which is air-conditioned to start your work, you would start to yawn excessively.

The reason being brains cannot function when your body is heated up and that is why we feel sleepy. In order for it to function, we let out yawns when the temperature outside is lower than our body temperature.

When you inhale cooler air from your surroundings, the air gets pushed to your brains which allows it to eventually cool down your overall body temperature. Hence that is why you would feel way better after washing your face in the afternoons as it would reduce your body temperature. Drinking a cold glass of watermelon juice in the afternoon could also help.

So lovelies, do not worry as you are not the only one who is going through ‘torture’. Avoid going out in the afternoons and if it is possible, pack some lunch for yourself in the morning itself. Or perhaps you may want to make something light in your pantry like a sandwich.
