Listen up, girls. Vaginas are stupendous. And not just because they help with sex and in achieving orgasms. You see, they have a way of telling you things you don’t even know! Curious? Read on!
Your vagina can be a rich source of important information about your overall health, as well as your sexual wellness – even if it probably won’t send you a text message. Because of this, it’s crucial to pay your vagina a bit more attention. But let’s be real. Often, we don’t really care much about our lady parts. Sure, they do their thing, but there’s always something surprising about them.
They work independently. They protect, clean and heal themselves. And most importantly, they let you know what’s going on with your body. Wanna know what else this baby can do? Keep reading!
1. Hello, you are ovulating
Knowing your vagina’s indications that you’re ovulating, and thus particularly fertile, would likely be beneficial, whether you’re attempting to get pregnant or prevent becoming pregnant. In fact, there’s a strong probability that your vaj is trying to alert you to that phenomenon right now – if you’ve just observed an increase in your discharge. Why? Just so happens, women who are ovulating have more discharge at this time of the month than at any other.
2. Pregnancy alert
Most women fail to realize they are pregnant. Perhaps you truly didn’t notice when your vagina tried to alert you that you were ovulating, and now you’re experiencing that thing that occasionally results from ovulation: pregnancy. Most people know a missed period as one of your vagina’s most overt attempts to notify you that you are pregnant, but much like when you ovulate, it also intensifies discharge. This results from higher levels of estrogen during pregnancy.
3. No scents please
Do you feel itchy down there? That’s probably because of detergent or scented products you use on your pubic area. Because the vulvar skin is fragile, anything, including fragrances or dyes, can quite literally irritate your lady parts. If you’re experiencing sensitivity to your skin down there, it may all be down to the laundry detergent you’re using. Choose unscented types instead, and omit dryer sheets entirely.
4. Please pee after sex
Unless you’re looking for an infection, you really should start peeing after sex. If you’re in a committed relationship, you can’t hurry to the bathroom immediately after a romp, in the desperate belief that “peeing would flush out any renegade swimmers that might impregnate me.” But it turns out that your vagina may be urging you to get out of bed and reactivate the post-coital urinal. This is due to the possibility that having sex will allow yucky anal bacteria to infiltrate the bladder, leading to the possibility of a UTI. Your urethra opening is cleaned of harmful microorganisms by urinating before and after sexual activity. We heard you loud and clear, vagina.
5. Something’s not right
Even though your vagina is a strong lady, she might get sick or infected. And one way to identify this is when you feel, notice or smell something off with your vagina. It’s a cry for help, whether it’s just a smell that doesn’t seem quite right, or just some discomfort. The risk of vaginal problems is decreased by using a vaginal gel or feminine wash to maintain a healthy vaginal pH. In most cases, special soap is not required to clean your vagina. However, if you have a strong odour, you can use genital wash or consult your gynaecologist.
6. Let’s go to the doc
Pack up, girl – we’re heading to the doc. Most of us don’t realize this, but your vagina may occasionally offer you warning indications that you simply cannot ignore. While some symptoms may be completely unrelated to anything, others may be your vagina’s way of alerting you to the need for medical attention. It’s time to call your doctor if you experience unexplained bleeding, itchiness, discomfort, pain, or discharge that is green, yellow, or white and curd-like discharges.
7. Lower the carbs
You love carbs, we love carbs. Who doesn’t? But you know who else loves it? That’s right – your vagina. So what is your vagina’s beef with the ultimate food group, which comprises everything from burgers and pizzas to donuts and biscuits? Evidently, the high sugar content of foods heavy in carbohydrates leads to an increase in blood glucose levels. This encourages the development of the yeast infection-causing fungus Candida albicans.
8. You’re having an orgasm
Yes, you’re absolutely welcome. Probably one of your regular conversations with your vagina is this one. But don’t worry if you haven’t reached that stage yet; your vagina will let you know when you get to the big “O.” When the time is right, you’ll feel a lot of wetness there, as well as a pleasurably tingling sensation brought on by pelvic engorgement. Your labia will flatten out and open up, and the interior of your vagina will actually lengthen and broaden in preparation for you know what, which you might not notice. When you reach your climax, your vagina will start to constrict rhythmically, appearing to spread throughout your entire body. Congratz on that!
9. Uhm, wrong undies
I know, girl. You just wanna look hot AF in those eye-catching thongs and undies. But wearing tight or tiny underwear could lead to problems, so it’s generally better to avoid them if you’re prone to infections. It’s not just the shape of your pants that counts; wearing synthetic fibres and tight-fitting clothing can quickly cause a healthy vagina to freak out. Instead, stick to breathable fabrics like cotton, and only wear constricting lace or silk when you’re almost certain you’ll be taking them off anyhow.
10. Chill the f*** out
Stress can lead to a wide range of issues down below, including extreme dryness, increased discharge, and a higher risk of infection. The latter is due to the fact that when you’re stressed, your body releases a hormone called cortisol, which wrecks havoc on your immune system and makes you more susceptible to illness. The fact that managing your stress is important for your overall health and mental well-being as well as for your vagina can only be seen as an extra benefit.
11. You really need condoms (or not!)
Stinky smells? A waterfall of discharge? Burning sensation or pain? Blisters and sores on the vagina? Your vajayjay really wants you to start using condoms. Of course, having sex without a condom is more enjoyable, but you still need to take care of your vagina’s health and wellbeing into account. Vaginal discharge is common, but it needs extra attention if it causes irritation, ulcers, cuts, burning, bleeding, swelling, or pain. Use of condoms during safe sex is one strategy to prevent these problems. And if using condoms is uncomfortable for you, you can either stop using them, or discuss the issue with your doctor.
