A decent hair dryer has the ability to improve our mood and enable us to face the world, based on what it can do for our locks. I don’t know about you, but Jennifer Aniston has always had one of the most sought-after manes, with one of her hairstyles – the “Rachel” – launching a 90s craze. And if you’re a millennial, you’d know that hair like Jen’s can greatly boost your allure.
Of course, having a pro stylist around to fuss over your hair is a big advantage. Many of Aniston’s styles have been influenced by Chris McMillan, who has been her hairstylist for decades, and was behind the “Rachel”. Luckily for us, Chris recently spilled the tea on getting the smooth, blown-out style the actress prefers.
Chris posted a vintage photo on Instagram of Jen smiling while getting ready for an event. In the caption, he reveals the secrets to her signature silky, straight hair – so if you want to achieve Jen’s amazing do, read on to learn Chris’ 3 simple tricks for the perfect blow-dry.
1. Section The hair
If you’ve noticed, Jen’s hair is always parted into two. If your hair is as short as Jen’s, or incredibly long, you can use this blow-dry method to make it look straight and natural. To begin with, Chris separates the hair into parts. He starts at the nape of the neck and takes a section and a half of hair to dry. According to Chris, it’s crucial that the hair has been previously cleaned and towel-dried. But seriously, wash your hair beforehand. This ensures that your hair isn’t oily and difficult to work with. Chris doesn’t use any agent to extend drying time, although he would re-wet the hair if necessary. If you’re worried about your hair being too dry, you can always apply some hair oil or keratin spray, just on the ends.
2. Use The Nozzle
Of course, to blow-dry, the main tools required are a hair dryer and a good hair brush. Chris recommends keeping the blow-drying process straightforward, and making sure to point the nozzle down the hair shaft for a sleek finish. He specifically mentions the round bristle brushes from Ibiza Hair Tools as they consistently produce good results. (Round brushes are well known for that.)
3. Boost Roots
For the perfect blow-dry, focusing on the roots is crucial. The secret to getting Jen’s hair is to always have volume, without being overly elaborate – so raise the hair and dry it from the root. The key is to do just enough, and do it well.
For that perfect hair, there has to be some kind of product required, at least after washing, right? In an Instagram post by LolaVie, a product created by Jennifer herself, the actress displays two products she uses before styling her hair. First is the Glossing Detangler, which she spritz throughout her towel-dried or damp hair, before combing through. Next is a few pumps of Perfecting Leave-In Conditioner, applied from the middle to the end of the hair. Sometimes, she mixes the LolaVie Hair Oil with the leave-In conditioner.
And that’s it – just blow-dry away! You don’t necessarily have to use the same products as Jen – you can always use something that best suits your own hair. After all, we all have trusty hair products that bring out the best in our locks.
