ASMR. Some hate it, but others completely love it. I, for one, enjoy listening to ASMR when I want to relax or fall asleep. It’s completely soothing and relaxes your mind into slowly drifting away into dreamland.
For those who don’t know what ASMR even means, it stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) and it is the tingling sensation that begins on your scalp and travels down your spine when you’re exposed to pleasant stimuli. It’s an odd description, I know, but most of us have experienced it. For instance, when your parents brushed your hair as a child, and you felt a sense of calmness as the the brush glided through your hair. It’s a relaxing feeling and that’s essentially ASMR.
Now, I don’t consider myself an ASMR aficionado, but I have listened to a few ASMR sounds on YouTube. There are loads of categories out there, from roleplays to cat purring (bizarre, I know) that absolutely anyone can enjoy.
Thus, I’m here to list down 4 of the best – in my opinion – ASMR sounds that will help you get completely relaxed! (prepare your earphones for a better sound quality).
Whispering
It’s my personal favorite, especially when they use a binaural microphone. A binaural microphone acts essentially like your ears would and the ASMRtist (people who do ASMR for a living) will whisper and move from left to right and pick up those sounds as if they’re your ears.
Tapping
As the wise and lovely Saweetie once said, Tap, Tap, Tap! If you enjoy listening to people tapping away at their keyboards, especially mechanical keyboards – then you would totally enjoy this sound! Tapping onto objects such as a vase, a book, or even an iPad can be so soothing to the mind and helps you feel calm.
Squishing
This might be a bit too odd for some, but squishy sounds are comforting to some. Slime ASMR videos have been making their mark in the ASMR realm and nobody seems to be complaining at all. All the squishy, squelching and popping noises can be relaxing too, so try listening to this video and I’ll leave it for you to judge.
Chaotic
For my peeps out there who thrive on chaotic situations, alleviate your stress by watching chaotic ASMR. It’s literally all over the place and super fast-paced, but still filled with all the serene elements of ASMR. Chaotic ASMR videos usually pile-on a lot of categories into one, which makes them more hectic, yet soothing.
