PER-SONIA-LLY SPEAKING: Is Flaunting Your Geekiness At Work A Juvenile Move?

Being hired for a new job can be a bit hard on the mental wellness department of your body. Not to mention making new workplace friends. It’s even more taxing if the job involved a relocation, and you had to start from zero.

Your cubicle is an empty canvas, and you want to decorate it with things you like but might be considered childish by your co-workers. Don’t worry, it’s totally fine for you to decorate it with things you like from TV shows, pop culture, anime and others. You are extending your personality and it’ll show the type of person you are at work.

You can start with small items like Nendroid, Funko and One coin figures as they are smaller in size and would not take up much of your cubicle area. They are easy to put away as well compared to bigger-scale figures. But, a big figure would be fine too. 🙂

Decorating your cubicle is also a way to get colleagues with similar interests who notice them to strike up a conversation or friendship with you. However, don’t overdo the decorating, else you’ll get distracted. They are just your moral support at the work place.

Another way for you to subtly show your geekiness is through the clothes and accessories you wear – graphic tees, bags, accessories. Uniqlo has the collaboration UT shirts for all sorts of series, from popular anime & manga to Western fandom – Marvel and Disney. For bag accessories, you can bring a decorated bag – Itabag (痛バッグ) to work, or a brand collab bag of your favorite series to show your geekiness over your favourite series/show.

Always remember that when it comes to work, your given task will be your top priority no matter how geeky your personality is. And…. it’s totally okay for you to show how geeky you are when it comes to what you like. It’s also important to feel comfortable and welcomed at your workplace. Always remember not to overdo it, moderation would be just perfect.

Be yourself and stay nerdy for the things you like!
