Chef Wan has confirmed that his daughter Serina Redzuawan has filed for divorce from her husband of 7 years.

Celebrity chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail or better known as  Chef Wan, expressed his happiness over the move by his actress daughter to separate ways with Irish husband Gavin O’Luanaigh in a series of Instagram posts. Chef Wan also addressed the fact that he’s sharing his thoughts on Serina’s unhappy marriage publicly as there has been too much speculation circling the topic.

“After advising my son-in-law numerous times on the importance of a husband’s responsibility to provide monthly financial support to his wife and his refusal to accept my advice, I am very happy that my daughter is filing for divorce,” he said. “We will go ahead with the legal proceedings to fight for her rights and for justice too.”

Serina and Gavin got married in January 2010 and share two children together. According to Chef Wan’s Instagram post, in any marriage, the wife should be “spoilt by the husband” but in Serina’s case, she had to work hard to provide for her family.

Chef Wan said he “is proud of his daughter and that she is a hard worker, responsible and independent” and “not the type to demand for material things”. “Sometimes I have to nag her about wearing clothes that look so cheap and scold her for not having better taste in dressing,” he added.

Serina’s husband, Gavin O’Luanaigh, has also issued a statement on the matter and expressed that he didn’t know why Serina left and hopes that “a resolution could be sought and the marriage healed”. He has also asked for their separation to be kept private, following Chef Wan’s Instagram posts.

“It is the hope of any family that all other family members support the couple and help them as much as possible through this tough time by keeping matters private, especially when children are involved.” O’Luanaigh wrote.

He also explained that he did pay  for all living expenses throughout the marriage. “I have diligently paid for everything for the family – providing a six-bedroom penthouse, paid all the family bills, maid, holidays and even made sure that both our children went to an international school so they could have the best education that I could provide,”

O’Luanaigh also hopes that the public could give the family some privacy to sort things out.
