Leonard Cohen, the influential singer and songwriter, has passed away at the age of 82.
Sony Music Canada, the Canadian singer and songwriter’s music label, confirmed the news via his Facebook page an hour ago.
Cohen’s work has spanned over five decades, with a career that began in the ’60s. He was also one of the most influential voices of his generation. His work catered to many of the most crucial themes of the era – love, hate, sex, drugs, war, peace, spirituality and depression.
One of his most famous songs, Hallelujah, has worked its powerful message across the ages and the globe. The famous hit has also been covered by many artists of different genres throughout generations. Rolling Stone was the first to report the story.
Cohen also recorded his fourteenth and final studio album, You Want It Darker. The album was recently released by Columbia Records on 21 October 2016.
