Skyscanner Reveals Top Local Destinations For This Chinese New Year Homecoming

This Chinese New Year season, many domestic destinations have become increasingly popular amongst Malaysians and Skyscanner is sharing those findings with you! In line with Tourism Malaysia’s Go Domestic campaign, what better time to explore our very own local gem?

Kuala Lumpur (21% of domestic flight searches) 

Chinatown in Petaling Street is filled with local flavours and craftsmanship that cannot be found elsewhere. Right before you’re done for the day, take a pit stop at Thean Hou Temple, one of the biggest temples built in the Southeast Asia to check it out.

Langkawi (18% of domestic flight searches) 

Langkawi remains a Malaysian favourite and is still catching travellers’ hearts with its white sandy beaches, clear waters and lush rainforests. Langkawi was officially declared as one of the 94 globally recognised geoparks worldwide from 27 countries. You can also enjoy the astonishing view from the Langkawi cable car ride or go scuba diving at Pulau Payar Marine Park.

Penang (13% of domestic flights) 

Penang’s rich with culture, heritage and not forgetting, amazing food. Explore George Town’s little charms, walk about the city by foot or drop by the Kek Lok Si temple, where you will be wowed with endless carvings, sculptures, and murals.

Kota Kinabalu (12% of domestic flights searches)

The Kinabalu National Park’s highest point is the 13,400-foot Mount Kinabalu, which is a great challenge for climbers to accomplish. Other highlights include the Crocker Range National Park which has a diverse species of flora and fauna, Gaya Street and Lintasan Deasoka to experience culture, the Atkinson Clock Tower, KK Wall Memorial, Signal Hill Observatory and Jesselton Pier.
