As Cliched As This Might Sound, Start Counting Your Blessings To Feel Better

Breathe in, breathe out, for a better sleeping experience

In this era full of frantic situations – not to mention the obvious ongoing pandemic that’s been happening all around the world – it is safe to say that most people are slowly, if not fully, starting to experience more stress, depression and social anxiety. And while some are facing the loss of their family members, friends and other loved ones, we, who are lucky enough to still have our loved ones and do the things that we love, need to practice gratitude and count our blessings more. Truth is, in this era, you never know what type of news you will wake up to next. Especially before bed.

Rather than continuously scrolling through unnecessary media apps, and rewinding old cringey moments and wishing that things were different, how about we create a little peace by setting a more relaxing mood, re-entering our happy state and space by disciplining our mind to count our blessings? It can be as simple as, ‘’Thank you God / Universe for the food today.’’ Start slowly for one night and see how your life transforms. We suggest you keep a small notebook on your bed side to list down things that you’re grateful for. Still not sure where to start? We gotchu!

1. Practice Your Own Mantras

Okay, you don’t have to specifically say, ‘’Thank you God / Universe for blessing me with a good ass income’’ – I mean, go ahead if you want to, but there are other alternatives that’ll make you more engaged and connected to your creators, hence, you’ll begin to attract more blessings. There are a lot of ‘’feel good’’ mantras or encouraging words that can be found online. For example, a simple, ‘’What’s meant to be, will be’’, can save you from a lot of anxiety, overthinking and stressful situations. Jot down some good, positive mantras and when you find yourself in doubt, repeat them.

2. Visualise A Positive Exposition

The mind is incredibly powerful, and oftentimes, we abuse ourselves into overthinking and dwelling on situations that haven’t even happened. Hence, unnecessary, yet heightened anxiety that can keep you up at night. If you feel a spiraling episode approaching, calm your mind down, distract yourself with a positive situation – it can be anything from a favourite vacation memory, to picturing your future life six months from now, or even a calming environment like a moment by the beach, visualizing the waves. By using mental imagery, you’ll be able to relax and distract your mind from whatever was bothering you.

3. Make A Soothing Playlist

As mentioned earlier, instead of scrolling through unnecessary apps or wasting your time watching TV to help you fall asleep, why not tune into relaxing meditation tracks. We suggest you create a good, soothing and smooth playlist and play them every night before you go to bed. While the soothing tunes play in your ear, try to close your eyes and focus on the good things that had happened on that day. If you’re having a quite shitty day, try to find at least 5 things that you’re grateful for. This will help you get through insomnia.
