There’s so many diet trends out there but do they really work? And if they do, does it help you maintain your weight for the rest of your life? We know that most of us are looking for new ways to lose weight without putting in too much effort. Instead of only cutting out carbs, detox, or even exercising, researchers have come up with an ingenious diet plan that requires minimal effort and good food.

“The Fast Diet”

Also known as the 5:2 Diet, it basically revolves around the philosophy: “Five days of feasting, two days of famine”. Michael Mosley and Mini Spencer are the authors of “The Fast Diet”. The Fast Diet allows people to eat what they want for five days, and then restrict themselves to 600 calories a day for the remaining two days. This research was approved by British and US scientists. Intermittent fasting can help people lose more fat, increase insulin sensitivity and cut cholesterol. At the same time, it will lower the risk of heart disease and diabetes, and even breast cancer.

Feasting for 5 Days

Although you can eat whatever you want, it doesn’t mean that you have the permit to overeat. Try not to exceed the standard daily intake of calories and avoid indulging in too much deep fried foods.  Do plan your meals properly, getting in the recommended dose of carbs, proteins and fruits. You can even incorporate the diet philosophy of the Zone Diet, which involves 40% of your daily total calorie intake from protein, 30% of carbs and 30% from fats.

Fast for 2 Days

Take only 1/3 of daily total calories intake which is 600 calories of food. Heaps of salads will be great, but if you need some protein, stick to steamed or boiled options. Drink more water to enhance your digestion too. It might be tough in the beginning but you know the next day you can eat normally again, keeping your body on the go. Source

The 5:2 Diet sounds doable but you should see better results once you incorporate steady exercise regimes in a week. You may need to cut down on a lot of fatty foods, but at least you can still keep up with your regular diet, simply eat light for two days in a week. Results may take a while to show, but it does seem like a reasonably healthy diet that doesn’t require you to starve yourself, or omit certain foods in your diet. Once you drink plenty of fluids, and get your vitamins in check, you should be able to squeeze into those tight jeans you bought on sale.
