This Tattoo Artist Helps Former Sex Trade Victims Heal With Her Work

Meet Kate Malone. She’s a tattoo artist from Milwaukee and she offers free cover-up tattoos to former sex workers that were “branded” by their pimps. Malone got inspired by two sex trade victims, and ever since working on them, she thought that it was important she did her part by helping them erase whatever she can of their past.

“A cover-up is a great option. You can take something painful and turn it into something beautiful,” says Malone. “I love doing cover-ups for people,” says Malone.

One of the clients that initially inspired Malone to offer her services, Denise Harris, agrees that removing her pimp’s name helped with the healing process. “You know, you try to overcome what you’ve been through,” she said. “You’re trying to overcome that, but if you’re constantly looking at that name, that name’s going to remind you.”

To help her with this very good cause and one that makes a real difference to those who come for the cover-up, Malone is currently recruiting other artists. Malone said, “They leave and say ‘I feel like a new person.”
