Dear Ms. Lipstiq,
I really really like this guy – and i think he likes me back… there is just one problem. We work together. Though we don’t work directly together, we are under completely different departments but there is still something at the back of my mind that isn’t sure about how to go about this. Despite working in different departments, we are still in the same office building and I fear that if things don’t work out, i’ll have to deal with seeing him constantly. Another issue would be of course, our colleagues. It will just be an awkward enviroment if they were to ever know any of this. I fear for unnecessary office drama. Despite it all, I really like this guy, and I think we could something good together. What do I do? Please advice… I’m really lost on this situation!
Dating within the office has been an issue that will forever occur. First of all, is there are no dating within the office rule set by your company? Check on that, and if there is, then you know what the answer to all this is. But let’s just say, in the case that dating within the office isn’t against your company laws, then it would not actually be wrong if you do. Especially with the fact that you both don’t work in the same department, that stops anything personal clashing with work in general. If you’re worried about your colleuges finding out, teasing or gossiping about you and your man, then keep it down low. The moment you get into a relationship, there is no need to project it to the world. It’s really something between the both of you, no one else needs to know. But if you do plan on making it known to the world, then ease into it. A sudden relationship in the office will get people talking. There’s no doubt about that.
At the end of the day, just do what you feel is most comfortable – don’t force yourself into anything but also, don’t hold back on anything just because of fear. You must always try to do what you can to make yourself happy. You come first in all this.
