While online beauty gurus provide some of the best makeup tips, more often than not, the hacks are based on their OWN facial features. So their followers may be disheartened to discover that the tips don’t necessarily work on them.

But thanks to TikTok, there’s been a rise in the number of beauty content creators – who are actual professional makeup artists – who give out useful makeup advice that leaves NO ONE behind. Since there’s a plethora of makeup advice on TikTok, I’ve chosen 5 legit MUA’s whose tips are highly useful and will change how you do your makeup.

Concealers

When we want to conceal our under eyes, most of us tend to just dab the doe foot applicator because it’s easy, right? But, by doing so, you’ll only add more product under your eyes and then when you blend, the concealer will just get dragged around your eyes. So, to prevent from using more product, you’d just have to use a small fluffy brush and tap it on the doe foot applicator to get the smallest amount of concealer you can.

With a light hand, blend the concealer under your eyes. Not only will you get a more seamless and less cakey under eye look, but you’ll also use LESS product and save as much of your favourite concealer as you can.

Spot Concealing

Another amazing concealer tip from a makeup artist for when you wish to spot conceal, but are wearing minimal to no makeup. Putting concealer on top of your blemish with no makeup on will make it look completely unnatural, as your skin will have a discoloration that doesn’t match the concealer perfectly. To avoid that, use a sheer coverage foundation and rub it around the area you wish to conceal. Afterwards, dab a tiny amount of concealer on your blemish and blend until seamless. You’d immediately notice how your skin color looks more even and the blemish is fully covered.

Blush Placements

While most, if not all of us, place our blush on the cheeks, it can really drag down our makeup look (depending on how heavy handed we are with our blush) and make us look more mature. Instead of placing the blush on the apples of your cheek, place it right in the corner of your eyes and blend it out. Then, with what’s left on the brush, drag the colours on your temple and on the highest point of your cheeks. With this blush technique, you’ll have a more youthful appearance and there won’t be this bright colour right in front on your face.

Bend Your Mascara

If you ever have trouble applying your mascara, where the pigment will get to certain places on your face, ruining your perfect makeup look, then try this hack from a makeup artist. Right before you completely pull out your mascara wand, bend the tip at a 90-degree angle so it’s completely straight – boom, your mascara application just got even better. You can easily coat your lashes without the fear of getting the black or brown pigment all over your face.

Quick pro tip: Only bend the mascara wand if it’s made out of bristle and not plastic.

Skin Tints Are Just Light Coverage Foundation

@scortezzbeauty

#stitch with @seananthonyv we gotta talk about “skin tints” #promua #makeup #mua

This is more of a misconception correction than a tip. The next time you think of buying a skin tint from any brand, regardless of whether it’s high-end or drugstore-quality, just know that you’re essentially buying a light coverage foundation. A skin tint is exactly as it says – to “tint” and even out your skin tone. However, the beauty industry has convinced its consumers that a sheer to light coverage foundation is a skin tint. Thus, if you wish to buy a skin tint, research the product more to know whether you’re actually buying a skin tint – or are being fooled into purchasing a light coverage foundation.
