Okay, we’re in trouble. This is not a drill and you have every reason to freak out right now.

A recent study by the National Cancer Institute suggested that young women who drinks alcohol regularly at a young age is putting themselves at risk of developing breast cancer.

The study was published online in The Journal of the National Cancer Institute, and it found that out of the 150,000 they’ve tested, 1,609 of the subjects developed breast cancer and 970 developed benign breast disease over their 20-year follow-up.

The co-author of the study, suggests that limiting your alcohol intake could reduce the breast cancer risk.

“Having 10 grams of alcohol six times a week (a standard drink contains about 14 grams of alcohol) was associated with an 11 percent increase in breast cancer and a 16 percent increase in B.B.D. The association grew stronger with increasing amounts of alcohol and time between a girl’s first period and her first pregnancy”. Yikes.

The suggests that the breast tissue in women who have not been pregnant is more susceptible to carcinogens.

So, let’s have ice-cream instead?
