Malaysians are always grouchy about the extreme humidity we are living in. People would easily strike a casual conversation complaining about the weather, humidity and heat, like there’s anything we can do to change it. Well, at least we’re coping well with it by having air conditioners (AC) in every corner of our houses and offices to stay cool and dry. A study published by The New York Times has shown that by 2075, Malaysians could potentially be experiencing 333 days of heat in a year! That doesn’t sound too cool, does it?

With the great deal of exposure to AC, ever wonder if it’s actually doing any good to us, or causing more damage? To help you figure that out, we have come to a point that exposing yourself to AC to extremes can be harmful, but if you are strike a balance between staying indoor and outdoor, it could be good for you.

Here’s why.

Improves the air quality

According to Mayo Clinic, air conditioners does not only reduce humidity levels, but also works as a great air filter. For those who have asthma, breathing problems, or other respiratory-related issues, the AC can help ease breathing by emitting filtered air while eliminating triggers such as mildew, pollen, mold and dust.

Keeps your body and surroundings cool

A Yale study shows that air conditioning can reduce the risk of hospitalization and cardiovascular-related issues (i.e. heart attacks) as it can prevent heatstroke. Additionally, our gadgets are also greatly exposed to the heat which can malfunction if overheating occurs. Therefore, with the help of the AC, this disaster can be saved from happening.

Improves work performance

Our bodies and mind are less productive in humid and hot environment. This is because, our body works harder and uses more energy to regulate our body temperature to optimal level. By the end of it, you’re left feeling tired and exhausted, craving to hit the sack. When our minds work slower, work gets pushed back, and so does productivity. Heat increases our body temperature and heart rate as well. Temper can be triggered by that and that can’t bring any good, especially at work. That’s the reason why offices are well-equipped with good air conditioners to ensure their employees are always cool and happy!
