Its name is all tongue in cheek, but “Tom, Dick, & Harry’s” is anything its brand suggests. The cozy, “glorified mamak”-looking tavern is located in the heart of Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, with an extensive sweet selection of drinks on tap and hearty grub.
The watering hole is not only one of the only places in Selangor, Malaysia, that is pet-friendly and perfect for a casual day or night out, it has also speedily gained its name as the surrounding neighbourhoods’ & its communities’ friendly pub. If that’s not enough to set “Tom, Dick, & Harry’s” apart from your usual pub, over the past weekend, this thriving community pub has decided to give back a little to the community – by organizing a blood donation drive.
“A pint for a pint”, it’s called. Perhaps the magic lies in the fact that “Tom, Dick, & Harry’s” graciously rewarded the donors with:
1. One complimentary one-hour Skateline lesson pass.
2. One free drink coupon (Connor’s or Nutri Malt).
When asked, the owners of “Tom, Dick, & Harry’s” pub and they said that the drive was inspired by their tagline, primarily, which states, “Your friendly neighbourhood pub”.
“We’ve successfully organized a few community-based events such as our TDH’s Mou Mai Tai run which takes place every quarter of the year alongside other happenings like our fishing trips and golfing events. We plan to make ‘A pint for a pint’ an annual event where people can come together to give a little something back to the community.”
On Saturday, 10th September 2011, a total of 41 pints of blood made the count for a fruitful day of blood donation drive. And how about that? All it took was 10 minutes of someone’s time to help give another lucky person a lifetime. We say, it was a job well done! Kudos to “Tom, Dick, & Harry’s” for the interesting twist in a community service project.
