Curb your child's hyperactivity

A hyperactive child is really more than a handful to handle, even more so if their diet is wrongly managed making him/her more hyper than usual. I always find it frustrating to take a hyper child out in public since it is harder to control them and at the end of the day I’m more tired than a few hours in the gym. However, after some research and experimentation, I realised that there are foodstuffs that actually curb the hyperactivity of a child.

The necessity of vitamins and minerals. We all know that vitamins are good for health. However, for hyperactive children, try vitamin B and vitamin C. Vitamin B help proper brain and gland functions and also help lower stress. Vitamin C also acts as a stress reliever. With minerals like calcium and magnesium however, they have a calming effect on hyper kids.

If it’s wrapped in cellophane, chuck it. Anything that has artificial colouring, flavouring and preservatives are to be avoided. According to studies, these stuff contributes to hyperactivity. Instead, try feeding your child more healthy wholesome organic food.

Say no to refined sugars and sodas. As we all know, sugar tend to give more energy to a person, let alone a little kid who is already bursting with energy. So, do avoid giving your child any foods that contain corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup, sucrose or concentrated fruit juice. In addition, sodas should be a big no-no. Phosphate additives found in carbonated beverages can contribute to fidgeting and restlessness.

Overall, try to include more home prepared food. If your child has sweet tooth, you can substitute all the store-bought sweets with home made cookies, or light ice cream or frozen yoghurt topped with berries.
