A new aircraft from Indonesia’s largest airline, Lion Air crashed into shallow waters just off the runway of the Denpasar airport on the resort island of Bali on Saturday afternoon.

All 101 passengers and seven crew members on the fight were rescued after it crashed at around 3pm. Lion Air spokesman, Edward Sirait said the airline has yet to cheek the nationalities of the passengers, but the Associated Press reported that 22 people were injured.

At a news conference, Siriat said that both the plane and the pilot were fit to fly. However, eyewitnesses said the plane, which was flying through heavy rain, missed the runway and crashed into the shallow water of Denpasar airport.

A passenger on the flight said that all the passengers were screaming in panic in fear they would drown.  Official says that it’s too soon tell what caused the incident, but reports say that it could possibly been a “wind shear” or a downdraft from storm clouds.

On the flight safety regulation side, both pilots on the aircraft were given urine tests by the Indonesian police and were cleared for drugs and alcohol. Neither pilot has been named.
