Recycling is a process using materials to create new products to prevent waste from materials that can still be reused. “Having to recycle seems like it’s too inconvenient”. This is a common complain from people who don’t find the need to recycle. Thought that seems to be a not good enough excuse as to why people don’t recycle, we’ve come up with a few ‘convenient’ and easy ways you can help save the planet.
1. Reusable Shopping Bags.
When going out to the market or any form of shopping, bring along a cloth bag (and one that’s big enough to fit all your shopping needs!). This way you can save usage of plastic bags as it is not bio-degradable, instead they photo degrade (which means they tear and break into smaller pieces). Plastic bags have been the cause of thousands of animals dying yearly as they accidently consume it thinking it’s food.
2. Rechargeable Batteries.
We use batteries for tons and tons of appliances at home, and by using rechargeable ones, we can not only help save the planet but also cut down on cost! Yes, we’re well aware that buying rechargeable batteries are pricey, but think about it in the long run. Also, consider how efficient they are, when you run out of battery instead of running to the store to buy new ones, all you have to do is recharge it! Batteries are filled with toxic-based materials that are harmful when it enters the environment and accumulate over years. This cause diseases, defects and poisoning.
3. Shop Green
There are tons of eco-friendly companies that make products from recycled materials, are against animal testing and so on. Look out for companies that have these initiatives and support them as it is probably one of the easiest way to make a difference. This could be almost anything at all, from notebooks to clothes, and even cosmetics. Most of these companies use organic products, which is also good for you!
4. Turn off The Lights!
Not just the lights, any form of electricity that you aren’t using, including your computers and laptop you keep on all night. This is probably the most basic of all basic things you can do. Don’t waste electricity. Saving a little goes a long way!
5. Pay your bills Online.
Welcome to the digital age! Most companies have already set up ways for you to make payment online in the comfort of your own home. All you have to do, is inform them that you would rather pay online and they won’t send you a physical bill. This way not only do you make it more convenient for yourself, you also save millions and millions of trees every year that are being cut down to produce paper.
6. Use matches.
Matches are so old school! But old school works when it comes to saving the planet. Most lighters that are sold, are made out of plastic and filled with butane fuel, both of which are petroleum based products. Most people throw away their lighters when it’s run out of gas, which means almost 1.5 billion of those end up in landfills each year. Try using cardboard matches instead, as they are made from recycled paper. Do not opt for wood matches as wood comes from trees, which means your contributing to deforesting.
