Got the sniffles? Well, why not have a beer… or thirty beers in fact!

In a recent study made by Sapporo (the Japanese brewery) – scientists have found that humulone, a chemical compound that is in beer (it is what gives the beer its bitter taste), can protect you against respiratory syncytial virus’… which has been linked to cold-like symptoms in adults.

But what’s the catch? In order for the humulone to unlocked it’s anti-viral powers, you’d have to drink a lot of the brew – around 360 ounces to be exact… which is equivalent to 30 cans of beer!

Since that is a little impractical, the team of scientists are going down to investigate more about the compound’s cold-fighting benefits and perhaps eventually add it to foods and non-alcoholic beverages.

This is just one of the latest highlights on beer’s surprising health benefits. Apparently, woman over 25 who drank beer in moderate amounts were shown to have lower blood pressure than those who opted for wine or spirits. And also, dark beer often comes packing with several different B vitamins as well as calcium, magnesium, and selenium – which is an important antioxidant that helps with immune system and fights off any nasty infections.
