We recently got up-close and personal with local celebrities Atilia Haron, Yasmin Hani and Mayjune Tan at the Reebonz Lounge at Reebonz Malaysia in Menara BRDB recently, to discuss the most important thing in a woman’s life – her handbag! Surrounded by luscious designer bags, Atilia, Yasmin and Mayjune talk to us about the handbag essentials, aesthetics and more!
How would you describe your perfect handbag?
Yasmin: I would say it’s not too soft, something that can stand on it’s own.
Atilia: For me, it’s all about durability because I use my handbag for a very long time. I’m actually quite lazy to change my bag, so the handbag has to be the perfect size since I carry a lot of things with me – headphones, charger, two phones and makeup. So it would have to be rather big, but since I also have a small frame, it can’t really be too big or else I would look like Smurfette.
Mayjune: For me, it should be something that can fit everything and anything! I need space in my bag for a book, my script, body lotion, sunblock..Everything!
Yasmin: I would call my bag a Doraemon bag because I carry my medication, lotion, cellphones, charger..everything and even an umbrella if I can. And food too, like chocolate or a power bar!
What are your handbag essentials?
Yasmin: There are a lot of essentials for me. It’s hard to decide on my must-haves since everything to me is a must-have! But there’s usually more than 10 – lotion, wallet, house keys, car keys, cellphones, medication, portable charger, sunglasses, vitamins, lipstick..
Atilia: I carry an extra nose-stud in my bag, as well. Like a few!
Mayjune: It’s the same for me too, but I always need a book.
Do you think a handbag can define someone’s personality?
Yasmin: It’s hard to say, but some people just don’t have fashion sense. Some people, by chance they just grab the first thing they see, and then the next one is quite questionable! But more or less, I guess it’s possible.
Atilia: I guess with a bag, you can tell if someone’s quirky, fun or serious.
Yasmin: Mothers, too! They have to carry those big tote bags. Yea, I guess in a way you could say a handbag can define someone’s personality, but you can’t entirely judge someone based on that, of course!
Do you like having a collection of bags where you can switch around depending on your mood, or do you stick to one classic piece that’s versatile and functional?
Yasmin: I like to have a lot of options because I can change it occasionally, but I tend to stick to one bag for a long time because I’m too lazy to change bags. But when I need one, I MUST have it in my closet! So, that’s why I have a lot!
Atilia: Same for me too! But the only time when we have to change bags is when we go for dinner where we switch to a smaller clutch.
Mayjune: Same. My staple bag should have a classic design to go with anything.
If you could design your own handbag, what would you include in the design of the bag?
Yasmin: Compartments! I like to organize the contents of my bag. I don’t want my keys to scratch my handbag. It would also have a comfortable strap.
Atilia: For me, I would consider the size, compartments, and even the texture, which would be leather since I don’t do very well with fabric due to sweaty palms.
Mayjune: My bag would have a key holder so that I wouldn’t have to fumble around looking for my keys.
