Mercedes-Benz Malaysia finally returned with the highly-anticipated fifth installation of their annual Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek KL 2023 (MBFWKL)! The collections, which provided us with a visual feast from both renowned and up-and-coming designers from the local and regional fashion industry, were undeniably captivating, to say the least!
With the theme “Electric is the Attitude”, MBFWKL 2023 promised to be an electrifying showcase of fashion-forward designs that fused luxury and sustainability, and we were NOT let down. Just take a look at what we got to see:
OUTDWELL
OUTDWELL is a brand dedicated to self-expression and the appreciation of high-quality products. Their collections emphasise the enduring appeal of denim and wool, while introducing new materials and shapes to showcase individuality. Led by creative director Oscar Lee, OUTDWELL thrives on innovation and meticulous handwork.
Drawing inspiration from hip hop culture and various art forms, OUTDWELL merges traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques, resulting in visually striking designs.
Their pieces individually are simple and not so “in your face”, however, put them together and you get an outfit that is sure to turn heads and draw everyone’s attention – that was most definitely the case for us!
NOIZ STUDIO By A-Jane
A-JANE, led by designer Alice Jane Chang, is a brand that expertly combines the worlds of music and fashion. Drawing inspiration from abstract art and challenging traditional paradigms, she views fashion as her artistic medium through which to explore with the ideas of distortion, imbalance, chaos, and imperfection.
A-JANE invites individuals to explore their inner depths, emotions, fears, desires, and demons through their clothing, creating a complex fusion of thought, expressionism, and Neue Musik.
We absolutely loved every detail of every look – from the hair all the way down to the geometrically balanced accessories. Not to mention the neon green that really popped when paired with black.
Coterie By Celest Thoi
Celest Thoi, a bridal designer originally from New Zealand, brings her design philosophy of “Simple, Elegant & Timeless” with a modern feminine flair. The Coterie collection features essential white shirts, shirtdresses, and simple white dresses that are not only smart and fashionable but also prioritize comfort.
The pieces are perfect for the contemporary individual who values quality, enjoys traveling, embraces empowerment, and loves life while effortlessly exuding style, elegance, and relaxation.
This collection was just angelic – so flowy, yet elegant at the same time! Although every individual piece of the outfit is white, the contrasting patterns and cuts make every item stand out, yet still blend in seamlessly together.
Jan Sober
Jan Sober, established in September 2009, is a brand renowned for its timeless menswear designs that embody strength, robustness, and a rejection of excess. Each garment created by Jan Angga is infused with the inspiration derived from personal stories, experiences, and peculiar thoughts that arise during his travels.
The patterns, the cutting, the fabrics – we just loved it all! There was something so futuristic yet traditional with every look.
It gave us low key Asian and Western fusion, but it’s all so subtle and naturally beautiful. Watching his looks was especially exciting, because it was just so much of everything we’ve never seen before!
