Believe it or not, some of us may have checked out from our romantic relationships – and not even know it! Despite questioning yourself whether or not you should continue the relationship with your partner, you hold on to it – but mentally, you’re not there. You linger in the hope that maybe your relationship will transform and become better as the days progress – only to realize that it’s stagnant, and gradually becomes dimmer.
It’s not exactly anyone’s fault. It’s just that when both of you don’t put enough effort into making the relationship blossom, it’ll wilt. Holding on would only make it worse, and you may not realise you’re doing it too.
So here are 5 signs that you should definitely let go and move on from your current relationship.
You’re Exhausted By Their Behaviour
It’s normal for a partner to f**k things up – they’re only human. But if your reaction is to be blasé because you’re not surprised by their mistakes, it shows that you don’t care. Not that that’s a bad thing – it just means that you had already expected that they would mess up, and you’re a bit exhausted by them. But not caring enough to fix that mistake so your partner won’t repeat it is a bad sign.
You Let Your Partner Outshine You
Whenever you’re both together in a group setting, you’re always quiet and not engaging in whatever activity the group is into, and you let your partner shine. It shows that not only are you not excited to be there, but also that you’re not excited that your partner is right beside you. You’ve mentally checked out and are in your own world, because you’d rather be alone than even be with your own friends and lover.
You’re Not At Peace Despite Being With Them
For some reason, being with them makes you anxious. When you’re in a relationship, you should be illuminated by sunshine and rainbows. However, being with your partner shrouds you in storms and gloominess. You’re not really yourself, or even at peace, when you’re on a date, and are only wishing that the day would pass by quickly.
You’re Relieved Whenever You’re Not With Them
Each time you part, you heave a heavy sigh of relief – that you’re finally alone. Being with them doesn’t make you as excited as you used to be, and you’re always looking forward to when they’re not in your presence. The fact that you’re the most YOU whenever you’re not with THEM is very telling – and a sign that you’re already letting go.
You’re Holding Onto Them, But Not Out Of Love
Despite all the above, you still want them in your life – be not necessarily out of love. You may have abandonment issues, have a fear of being alone, or a fear of never finding someone else. Whatever the case may be, letting go of your partner was never an option for you, so you just carry on despite the love having soured. Trust us when we say this: holding on hurts more than letting go.
