You know that big fad that stuck – leggings. It was and still is one of the biggest fashion trends. So much so that it was everywhere, worn at any time of day or night! But as much as a lot of women got it right, there are also some women who completely avoid wearing them for the fear of getting it completely wrong.
So, how do you get it right? Like this!
1. Pair them with roomy tops.
First and most important rule, leggings are not pants! The easiest and most foolproof way to wear them is to pair them with a tunic or an over-sized top. Make sure that your tunic is long enough to cover your hips and butt! You would want a tunic that is long enough to come down past your hips. And because leggings hug your body so closely, don’t wear a tight tunic. Pair roomy with fitted, then throw on a belt or a waist cinch and you’re good to go!
2. Make the colours work.
Unless if you’re excellent at colour blocking, coordinate your ensemble well. They can be the best accessory to your outfit but it shouldn’t be the item to stand out (well, unless if you’re Lady Gaga). Choose all other items first and then only throw them in. Avoid brightly coloured leggings and you’d be avoiding drawing attention to your every unsightly curve or bump. An elegantly done ensemble would be to wear a black tunic with black leggings (plain, latex, or leather) and oxfords or high-heeled boots.
3. Go for girly!
If you have a dress lying around that you haven’t worn in a long time, perhaps it’s time to improvise. A close-fitting dress would look good with ‘em! And if you think your bohemian-styled dresses or flowery dresses (especially tube ones) are off season, start throwing them on again. Leggings work especially well with billowy, summery dresses. The other option is to pair them with a mini-skirt and you’re all set for a casual day out.
Also, you need to be careful with the shoes you wear with ‘em. Leggings look best with flats so slip into a comfortable pair. Ballerina flats are, of course, the best to go with your outfit. Second to best would be plain pumps or, if the occasion sees fit, high-heeled boots.
And like we would always say, remember to accessorize appropriately and have fun playing dress up!
