YouTube’s new paid subscription offering is taking shape and it is expected to be available within the next few months. The paid subscription will offer ad-free videos and the ability to store videos offline on mobile devices, for a price slated to be about $10 a month.
It would also allow creators to place their videos behind a paywall so that only subscribers to the premium version will be able to view them. The paid subscription may also include more affordable subscriptions for categories such as music and children’s programmes.
This subscription offers successful channels a new way to generate money. YouTube will still receive about 45% of the advertising revenue, but the partners will receive 55% of the total. The cuts will be based on how much time their viewers spend watching their channels.
Additionally, creators are required to opt for the subscription offering, or every video on their channels will be set to private.
Many YouTubers and their loyal subscribers are NOT going to be pleased with this news. Would you pay for YouTube’s new subscription service?
