Now that Hari Raya is over, are you feeling bloated? Had too much to eat over the past few days? Feel like you’ve put on a gajillion kilograms? Then perhaps it’s time to detox!
A short detoxifying program or cleansing is generally safe, and is beneficial for your health because you rid your body of toxins. The same contaminants that might cause fatigue, sluggishness, bad skin, so on and so forth. And yes, this short program can also help you flush out the binge fest you just had over the Hari Raya break!
1. Abstinence from bad liquids
How do you go about “resetting” your body? Firstly, start eating light. That’s right! No more excuses for binging! And by that we mean eliminating alcohol, coffee, refined sugars, and saturated fats. These are the sworn enemies that act as toxins in your body.
2. Load up on juice and water
Another way of effective detoxing or cleansing is by going on a three to seven days’ worth of “juice fest”. Drink a lot of fresh fruit and vegetable juices (you can even experiment with the mixing and matching of juices and making your own smoothies!), as well as water, to release the toxins from your body. There’s also an option to drink only water one day per week to completely clear your system.
3. You are what you eat
Your diet will also have to change from this point on. But don’t worry; you won’t have to reduce yourself to eating only greens. Start eating plenty of fiber-rich food (which includes brown rice and organically-grown fresh fruits and vegetables). Add food items like radishes, cabbage, broccoli, artichokes, and seaweed to your meals. They’re excellent detoxifying food!
4. Supplements and exercise
Then, further cleanse your body by ensuring that you take a lot of vitamin C (which helps the body produce glutathione, a liver compound that drives away toxins) and exercise! By exercise, we don’t mean high impact sports. Simple daily work outs such as yoga or jump-roping for about an hour a day would be sufficient.
We hope this helps to get your body back in sync!
