(VIDEO) This Shows How Mothers’ Negative Words Affect Their Daughters

It is a commonly known fact that children will listen to their mothers, especially daughters. Not only do they give their utmost attention when being addressed by their mothers, but will also remember when they are not listening.

As part of the brands’s Self-Esteem Project, this short film by Dove shows us and highlights how insecurities can be transferred from mothers to daughters. In the video, each Mother is asked to give a list of the things she may not be that fond of about her body and the young daughters were also asked to do the same thing.

It wasn’t surprising when the daughters ended up listing the same body parts that their mothers had mentioned: arms, “wonky” eyes, big thighs, you name it. It is proven that they do learn from their biggest role model. This is a lesson in parenting and of course, self-confidence. Mothers should show their daughters how to be confident by being comfortable with themselves because that’s the only place they will learn it from.
