Monki joins forces with Plan International, supporting their global campaign Because I am a Girl. Starting 4 September RM2 for every tote bag sold at Monki will go to Plan’s work for all girls’ rights to an education. Tote bags are a Monki tradition; the Scandinavian fashion brand is well known for offering one of a kind print or slogan bags, making the tote the natural choice to spearhead this collaboration.
“We look forward to sharing this project with our customers, says Irene Häglund, sustainability coordinator at Monki. “Plan’s work to help young women, and the Because I am a Girl campaign in particular, is something we feel strongly about. We know that our friends around the world will agree.”
Targeting women’s education in the world’s poorest countries, Because I am a Girl is a global campaign based on the idea that if you change the future of a single girl, you can change the future of her entire community. The project aims high: at least nine years of education for all girls in the world.
“Globally, 1 in 5 adolescent girls around the world is denied an education by the daily realities of poverty, violence and discrimination,” says Sofia Klemming Nordenskiöld, Press Officer at Plan Sweden. “And yet we know that one of the most powerful measures we have against poverty is helping girls go to school. We’re delighted that Monki and its customers will help contribute to our efforts to do so.”
