Oh boy, here we go again!
Just when we thought hazy skies were only the problem. According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the wrath of nature affects everyone. The dry and hazy days are set to linger on because of the onset of the dry season that will last till the end of September.
Yes, it might have rained a few days and yes it have helped clear the haze, but made no noticeable impact on the levels at the major dams in Selangor. One example stands out – when the last rationing exercise was imposed between February and March, the level at the Sungai Selangor dam was 37%. It is now 33.46%. And there is still no word on whether a water rationing exercise will be carried out again.
The National Water Services Commission (SPAN) says it is waiting for the Selangor government to decide if another round of water rationing is required.
On another note, the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) appears to be in the dark.
Its director Md Khairi Selamat said there were no discussions calling for another round of rationing and that further information on the state’s plans would only be revealed by the state councillor in charge of infrastructure. As we have seen from the last exercise, there was much confusion over how the rationing exercise was carried out.
