Fashion has evolved tremendously from the past and something that was considered a fashion faux pas can very well be a hot new trend today. One trend we’ve constantly been eyeing on the runways and on the streets is wearing socks with open-toed shoes and sandals. Yes, there was a time when women wore sheer nude pantyhose regardless of the type of shoes they chose to put on, but that’s considered outdated right now and this new trend is totally different. It’s bold, modern, sophisticated and takes your entire look to the next level. If you want to try this out, we’ve got a few tips for you!
1. Pair it right – This is tricky, but you’ll get the hang of it! The bolder your combo, the better this will look on you. Play with colours, patterns, textures and trims!
For open-toed booties, you can try slouchy socks that go up a tad bit higher than regular socks, knee-highs, or even thinner, more delicate socks.
Open-toed pumps ooze sexiness and sophistication, but that doesn’t mean that you have to keep it that way. You can pair your pumps with some lace or ruffle-trim socks for a cute look, or a patterned sock to keep the look flirty and fun.
With strappy heels, we’d keep the socks more simple to avoid making your feet look too busy. You surely do not want way too much going on.
Chunky heels with thick straps look good with anything! The design of this type of shoes is usually simple, so you can go with printed socks, knee-highs, lace or ruffle-trim socks, delicate socks and even thick slouchy socks.
For flat everyday sandals, we’d avoid socks that are too thick as it could make the look a little dowdy.
2. Skip super sheer socks – Going with really sheer socks can put an old-fashioned stamp on any outfit. You may think that pairing super sheer socks with open-toed shoes enables you to pull off this trend way more subtly, but this may make you look frumpy instead. Also, with so many pretty opaque shades and quirky prints to choose from nowadays, why not go all the way?
3. Don’t be afraid of prints – Who says socks with prints are off-limits? From pizza socks, cute polka dots, stripes and florals to the classic leopard print, these socks paired with the right shoes can add flair and quirkiness to your entire look. It all depends on the look you’re going for and the possibilities are endless, so don’t be intimidated!
4. Experiment and check in the mirror – The key to pulling off this trend is to experiment and see what looks best with the rest of your outfit. When you’re all dressed up, play around with different socks and shoes, then check yourself out in the mirror to scan your entire look. Do the colours complement your outfit? Do the shoes look right with these socks? Also, do these socks and shoes match the look you’re going for? Getting a good overall look of your outfit in the mirror will help you answer these questions.
5. Be confident – Finally, if you do decide to rock this trend, be as confident as you possibly can. Nothing’s more unattractive than a woman who looks uncomfortable in what she’s wearing. Some people would take glances at you, but who cares really? If you feel good in what you wear and look fierce in it, nobody will question your choices. 😉
