The Coroner’s Court today ruled that Dinesh Dharmasena who received a gunshot to the head in alleged “extra-judiciary” killing by the police back in 2012, died of misadventure due to the gunshot wound.
Magistrate Noor Farahazwani Osman said in her judgment that the decision was made on the forensic team’s inability to identify the gun that fired the deadly shot which pierced the deceased’s right shoulder at the time of the incident.
Dinesh, 26, was shot in Ampang in the wee hours of August 21st, 2012.
The inquest has been marred by allegations of discrepancies, including the prosecution’s failure to compel two witnesses present at the time of the shooting in what lawyer Eric Paulsen, who is representing the deceased’s family, described as a reflection of the Attorney General Chambers’ disregard in uncovering the truth.
Report show that Dinesh died from gunshot wounds two days after he was allegedly shot in the head and arm at close range. Police claimed that patrolling officers only opened fire they were attacked with a parang.
