When Carly Rutter came home from vacation to have her boyfriend present her with a jigsaw of their faces, she was kind of puzzled.
Six hours later, with the puzzle still incomplete and jet lag kicking in, she got very irritated – especially when she realised her partner Joe Boast had hidden the final pieces.
But as he handed them over to her one by one and she put them in place to spell out, “Carly Suzanna Rutter, I love you. Will you marry me?” her bad mood instantly disappeared.
Now, the couple from Cambridgeshire have started planning for their big day.
The 25-year-old bride-to-be said, “I didn’t realise until the very end because he’d hidden those pieces, the last bit with the question on. I probably didn’t give him the best response because I was just angry he’d given me more puzzle pieces.
“But, obviously once I realised what they said, I was so happy.”
The couple met four years ago and have been in love ever since.
Boast, 28, a primary school teacher in north London, decided to pop the question through a homemade jigsaw because of his ladylove’s passion for board games.
He also wrote a romantic poem on the puzzle, but saved the crucial question until the end.
His poor parents, however, went for a bike ride to give them some privacy and ended up cycling 50km.
