While movies and lovey dovey love songs make men believe that most women secretly desire for extravagant romantic gestures, the truth is, most of these gestures only work on screen than in real life, especially when the both of you are just beginning to know one another a little bit better, or you’ve just started your relationship. So, here are some romantic gestures that will freak most modern females out; guys, remember that you should take precautionary measures before attempting them in real life.
1. Buying us a huge bouquet of flowers on the very first date
It’s not Valentine’s Day, nor is it our birthday. This seems a little too extravagant when you’re just getting to know each other, and this isn’t a prom. Save the flowers for when you’re really sure about things or you’re getting pretty serious.
2. Ordering for us on dates
Let the lady eat whatever she wants and don’t make any comments about what she orders. It can seem pretty thoughtful, but when she’s already studying the menu for herself and she’s already decided on what to have, you should just keep quiet or you’ll come off as a control freak.
3. Putting up a story or poem about us
This isn’t the nineteenth century and if we’re that amazing, you should give us compliments or tell us personally, not write a story or poem and put it up on social media. Not only is this slightly embarrassing for us, the whole world would know of this. It really isn’t cute.
4. Calling us the night you got our number
When we barely know each other, it’s not okay for you to call us on the first night we met. It makes you look like you’re trying too hard, and we’d be turned off by your phone call. Text us first, please!
5. Calling every 10 minutes when we don’t reply texts
When we’ve just met, you need to chill and this means that you should allow us to take our own sweet time to reply your texts. If you keep calling to get us to respond, it’ll look like you’re super desperate, and that’s never a good thing.
6. Leaving random notes on our doorstep or car
“You’re cute. Call me 016-xxxxxxx” or “I noticed you jogging down the street and I think you’re beautiful”. Some guys think this is romantic, but all we would think about is that someone has been watching us! STALKER ALERT.
7. Celebrating ‘month-saries’ or dates way too early in the relationship
Nothing is more alarming than an overly attached boyfriend, and the gifts you present to us every ‘monthsary’ isn’t wise. You shouldn’t be acting overly enthusiastic, especially when we’re in the early stages of the relationship. Keep calm and don’t scare us away.
8. Flooding our social media pages
Don’t stalk our Facebook profile, and stop commenting on every single thing on our wall. We’re supposed to get to know each other, and acting like a fan when it comes to things we post on Facebook or Twitter is just too much.
9. Calling us “wifey”
Yeah, we’re not married so hold your horses right there. When you’ve just started dating, calling us “wifey” can make you look like you’d be a clingy and obsessed lover. Plus, who does that these days? Well, unless you’re engaged, or about to get married, then, it’d be acceptable.
10. Feeding us in public
If you do this once or twice to let us try a little bit of your order, it’s fine. But we’re capable of feeding ourselves and you don’t have to go all out to make us look like children who need to be taken care of. We’re perfectly fine on our own, thank you.
